Exemplaire sur un petit flan, très légèrement décentré au revers. Beau portrait. Revers historiquement très important. Patine marron superficielle. Un bel exemplaire représentatif de l’art monétaire du premier siècle

Obverse description : Buste lauré à droite avec l'égide (O*4).
Obverse translation : “Nero Claudius Cæsar Augustus Germanicus Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestas Pater Patriæ”, (Néron Claude césar auguste germanique grand pontife revêtu de la puissance tribunitienne père de la patrie).

Reverse legend : S|C.
Reverse description : Arc de triomphe, surmonté par un quadrige vu de face conduit par Néron entre les statues de la Victoire (Victoria) et de la Paix (Pax).
Reverse translation : “Senatus Consulto”, (Avec l’accord du Sénat).
Commentary
Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire de MONNAIES XVIII, n° 295. Trace de cassure de coin au revers sur le haut du quadrige qui n’est pas très visible sur cet exemplaire. Dans l’une des arches, une niche aménagée permet de découvrir la statue d’un soldat ou de Virtus (la Virilité). Au droit le buste est orné de l’égide avec la tête de Méduse, attribut de Minerve.
Same obverse die as the example of MONNAIES XVIII, n° 295. Trace of die breakage on the reverse on the top of the quadriga which is not very visible on this example. In one of the arches, a niche allows one to discover the statue of a soldier or Virtus (Virility). On the obverse the bust is decorated with the aegis with the head of Medusa, attribute of Minerva

The monetary reform of 64 made it possible to restore the finances of the state while making the inhabitants of the Empire bear the cost of these. This year 64 is marked by the great fire of Rome and its consequences, including the persecution against the Christians of the city. The following year, it is the discovery of the conspiracy of Pison, the death of Seneca and Lucain. In 66, Tiridates was enthroned King of Armenia in Rome. Nero then goes to Greece where he performs on stage and proclaims "The freedom of Greece". The excesses of the emperor cause at the beginning of the year 68 a wave of discontent which culminates with the revolt of Vindex in Gaule, Galba and Otho in Spain. Nero is declared a public enemy by the Senate. He committed suicide on June 9 so as not to fall alive into the hands of his enemies..
