Obverse description : Tête casquée à gauche, deux annelets pointés au-dessus du casque ; légende derrière la tête.

Reverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Reverse description : Cheval bondissant à droite derrière une enseigne ; un aigle entre les jambes et un astre devant le cheval.
Commentary
Ce type de bronze est très rare ; c’est le deuxième que nous proposons à la vente. Il est pourtant connu depuis le XIXe et reproduit dans le LA TOUR. Le dessin LT. 7976 montre deux annelets pointés superposés au-dessus du cheval. Sur notre exemplaire, il s’agit clairement d’une enseigne dont le manche est figuré sur le côté du cheval !

VELIOCASSES (Area of Norman Vexin)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Véliocasses, people of Belgian Gaul, lived in the Norman Vexin located in the current department of Seine-Maritime. Their neighbors were the Lexovians and the Aulerci Éburovices, with the Seine as their border, and on the other side the Parisii, the Calètes and the Bellovaques. They participated in the Belgian coalition of 57 BC, led by the Bellovaques and provided a contingent of ten thousand men. But in 52 BC, for the relief army to release Vercingetorix besieged in Alesia, they only gave three thousand men. The following year, in 51 BC, they took part for the last time in the coalition of the Belgians in revolt under the leadership of the Bellovaques. Their main oppidum was Rouen (Rotomagus).
