Reverse description : Valeria Luperca ou Europe assise à droite sur un taureau à droite.
Reverse translation : “Lucius Valerius”, (Lucius Valerius).

Commentary


Monnaie probablement fourrée. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a relevé une estimation de 72 coins de droit et de 80 coins de revers pour deux variétés. Les auteurs du CMDRR. ont recensé quatre variantes. Ce type est plus rare que ne le laissent paraître les ouvrages généraux. L’exemplaire de MONNAIES IX, n° 166 en SUP s’est vendu 715€ sur un maximum à 983€.
Coin probably filled. For this type, Mr. Crawford noted an estimate of 72 obverse dies and 80 reverse dies for two varieties. The authors of the CMDRR. have listed four variants. The Valeria gens is an ancient patrician family, of Sabine origin. This gens enjoyed exceptional longevity and many of its members reached high office. Several emperors also descend from this family which obtains the right to be buried within the walls of the City, as well as a throne in the circus maxime.
