Reverse description : Rome casquée et drapée assise à gauche sur un trône à dossier, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main droite et un sceptre de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Urbs Roma”, (Ville de Rome).

Commentary


Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cabochon rond gemmé. Fibule d’attache gemmée. Ptéryges fines sous le paludamentum. Au revers, sceptre long bouleté.

Valens, after having been proclaimed august by his brother, receives the charge of governing the East. Since Decius, he is the first emperor killed in battle by the Goths in Adrianople, August 9, 378.
