Ce triens est frappé sur un flan un peu court, mais bien centrée avec les légendes presque complètes. Le flan est légèrement granuleux, avec de petits défauts de surface. Sont à noter une rayure verticale sur le buste et une trace de pliure particulièrement visible au revers

Commentary

Cet exemplaire correspond au n° 4636 du Belfort, et est probablement issu du même coin de revers. Le droit est très légèrement différent mais porte la même légende.
Au Ve siècle, le nom d'Uzerche aurait été Vserca ; l'origine du nom (dérivé de la Vézère, Visera) en fait un toponyme très original, qui n'a jamais été proposé pour une autre localité. Le triens d'VSERCA n° 4634 du Belfort porte quant à lui les lettres LEMO dans le champ autour de la croix, ce qui renvoie certainement à un lieu de frappe situé dans le cadre territorial de la province dont Limoge est la capitale (LEMOVICAS CIVI). Les monétaires attestés pour Uzerche sont au nombre de neuf ; VRSO, LEODO, MAVRVS, BASILIANVS, BASELIANVS, NVNNOLVS, GANDILLON, MANXIO et BAVDECHI(...). Notre monétaire et BASILIANVS sont peut-être une seule et même personne. Concernant le dernier monétaire dont la légende est incomplète, J. Tixier fait remarquer dans son article que BAVDEGISELVS apparaît sur un triens de Saint-Yrieix en Haute-Vienne et BAVDIGISILVS sur une autre monnaie de Sardent, en Creuse.
This example corresponds to No. 4636 of Belfort, and probably comes from the same reverse die. The obverse is very slightly different but bears the same legend. In the 5th century, the name of Uzerche would have been Vserca; the origin of the name (derived from the Vézère, Visera) makes it a very original toponym, which has never been proposed for another locality. The triens of VSERCA No. 4634 of Belfort bears the letters LEMO in the field around the cross, which certainly refers to a minting place located within the territorial framework of the province of which Limoge is the capital (LEMOVICAS CIVI). The attested coins for Uzerche are nine in number: VRSO, LEODO, MAVRVS, BASILIANVS, BASELIANVS, NVNNOLVS, GANDILLON, MANXIO and BAVDECHI(...). Our mint and BASILIANVS are perhaps one and the same person. Concerning the last mint whose legend is incomplete, J. Tixier points out in his article that BAVDEGISELVS appears on a triens from Saint-Yrieix in Haute-Vienne and BAVDIGISILVS on another coin from Sardent, in Creuse
