Coments on the condition:
Denier bien identifiable, sur un flan un peu court, avec une frappe un peu décentrée au droit. Le métal présente un aspect un peu irrégulier, poreux par endroit et superficiellement oxydé avec des concrétions

Commentary


Cet exemplaire classé en indéterminé ne semble pas avoir été attribué. Il est mentionné dans l’index des légendes de Moneta 22, mais ignoré dans le catalogue. Ce genre de denier, proposés par certains comme étant de Pépin le Bref, voir même de Charles Martel (? ?) est vraisemblablement à la frontière entre les deniers mérovingiens tardifs et les monnaies carolingiennes précoces ! Aussi classé en carolingien, ce denier est attribué à Chelles (Kala Monasteri ou variantes)
L’origine est plutôt à rechercher dans la région de Troyes. Le rapprochement de la légende avec TRICAS étant à envisager... Si le droit est assez régulier, l’épigraphie du revers semble présenter de nombreuses variantes !.
