Commentary
Cette monnaie est un faux d’époque en cuivre copiant les deniers avec KAP/PAS attribué à Chappes dans l’Aube, toutefois, la présence de ces deniers KAP/PAS dans le trésor de Nice Cimiez a incité Georges Depeyrot, p. 155, à les classer à la région de Marseille. Deux deniers auraient été trouvés dans un marais proche de la vallée de la Seine, probablement Chappes selon les auteurs du RTSENA 11, p. 116. Nous préférons rester prudent au sujet de l’attribution de ces deniers.

Many Merovingian coins, badly minted, with very poor or inexplicit epigraphy, cannot be attributed to a particular mint. Too rare coins unfortunately have the same problem. The attributions being based on often old works, a coin unknown at the time will often have difficulty in being attributed, unless it is possible to read the mint or find the name of the mint and compare with its production in the workshops where he minted coins....
