Né en 1814, le grand poète ukrainien Tarass Chevtchenko meurt le 10 mars 1861 à Saint-Petersbourg. Initialement inhumé au cimetière de Smolensk à Saint-Petersbourg, il en est exhumé le 8 mai pour être finalement enterré le 22 mai après un long voyage en train puis en voiture à cheval àChernecha Hora (la Montagne du Moine) près de Kaniev
