Historical background

THRACIA - AIGOSPOTAMOI

(4th century BC)

Aigos Postamos was located on the Hellespontic coast of the Chersonese of Thrace. The city owes its name to the eponymous river (Aigos Potamos) which flowed at its feet. The city is best known for the defeat suffered by Athens in 405 BC against the Spartan fleet of Lysander, which marked the end of the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC)..
