Exemplaire sur un flan très large, bien centré avec un portrait légèrement stylisé. Joli revers, de haut relief. La pièce a été légèrement nettoyée

Obverse description : Tête d'Héraklès à droite, coiffée de la léonté.

Reverse

Reverse description : Zeus aétophore, les jambes croisées, assis à gauche sur un siège avec dossier, nu jusqu'à la ceinture, tenant un aigle posé sur sa main droite et un long sceptre bouleté de la gauche ; monogramme sous le siège.

Reverse legend : [A]LEXANDRO[U]/ [B]ASILEWS/ KLEAN/ DHO

Commentary

Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du SNG de la collection William Stancomb (WSC. 251) qui décale la chronologie de ce type de plus d’un siècle (c. 150 avant J.-C.) par rapport à celle donnée par M. Price (c. 280-200 avant. J.-C.). Ce dernier signalait deux variétés (MP. 1173 a et b) pour ce type de tétradrachme en fonction de l’arrangement de la légende au revers. Il semble qu’il faille identifier le magistrat avec un Kléandros.
Same dies as the SNG copy from the William Stancomb collection (WSC. 251) which shifts the chronology of this type by more than a century (c. 150 BC) compared to that given by M. Price (c. 280-200 BC). The latter reported two varieties (MP. 1173 a and b) for this type of tetradrachm based on the arrangement of the legend on the reverse. It seems that the magistrate should be identified with a Kleandros
