Coments on the condition:
Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan très large, parfaitement centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis complets. Portrait tout à fait inhabituel. Revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe fantastique. Très jolie patine grise avec des reflets dorés, légèrement brouillée au droit. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Commentary


Avec l’intégralité de son argenture superficielle. Portrait tout à fait exceptionnel avec un buste radié et cuirassé à gauche. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Cuirasse cloutée. Ptéryges fines et tombantes sous le paludamentum. Revers historiquement important. Cet exemplaire est mentionné avec photo dans RIC. temp. 3401 (n° 7).

According to A. Chastagnol, the interregnum lasts nearly two months, between the end of September and the beginning of December 275 at most. The same researcher establishes that Tacitus was not elected by the Senate alone, but with the help of the army, during a diplomatic ballet between Rome and the Pannonian armies, so that Tacitus would accept the purple. The date of his elevation poses a problem and the traditional date of September 25 may be called into question if the interregnum lasts until December. At the beginning of 276, Tacitus left Rome to fight the Goths who had invaded Asia Minor. He was finally assassinated at Tyana in Cappadocia..
