Historical background

IMPLIED

(11-12/275-06/276) Marcus Claudius Tacitus

According to the late A. Chastagnol the interregnum lasted nearly two months between late September and early December 275 maximum and the researcher highlighted that Tacitus was not elected by the Senate alone, but with the support of the army, in a flurry of diplomatic activity between Rome and the Pannonian armies to Tacitus accepts purple. The date of his elevation problem and the traditional date of 25 September can be questioned if the interregnum lasted until December. Tacitus, in early 276, left Rome to fight the Goths who invaded Asia Minor. He was finally assassinated in Tyana in Cappadocia.
