Exemplaire sur un petit flan bien centré des deux côtés. Belle tête radiée d’Antiochus VI. Revers de style fin bien venu à la frappe à l’usure superificelle. Patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Newell ne signalait qu’un exemplaire provenant de la collection Rhousopoulos n°4460, pl. LV (Hirsch). Ce type se rencontre dans le trésor de Tehran (IGCH 1813) et du sud de la Turquie (CH III, 60).

SYRIA - SELEUKID KINGDOM - ANTIOCHUS VI DIONYSUS

(145-142 BC)

Antiochus VI Dionysos, son of Alexander Balas and Cleopatra Thea, was proclaimed king by General Diodotus to fight against Demetrius II. Antiochus VI once assassinated by Diodotus in 142 BC, he had himself proclaimed king under the name of Tryphon (142-138 AC.). Demetrius II was captured in 140 BC by the Parthians and his brother Antiochus VII Sidetes succeeded him. Cleopatra Théa hastened to marry him.
