Obverse description : Allégorie féminine drapée à l’antique, debout et de face, tenant un flambeau d’une main et une branche de laurier de l’autre. Divers objets à ses pieds : roue, caducée, ruche, corne d’abondance, épée, bouclier, arc brisé, lampe et divers amphores.

Commentary

Le Congrès de la paix et de la liberté est un congrès international organisé à Genève en 1867 par le pacifiste français Charles Lemonnier et par le juriste français Émile Acollas, avec le soutien de nombreux intellectuels comme John Stuart Mill, Élisée Reclus, Élie Reclus, Victor Hugo, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Louis Blanc, Edgar Quinet, Jules Favre et Alexandre Herzen. Dix mille personnes en Europe ont signé des pétitions en soutien à ce congrès.
The Congress for Peace and Freedom was an international congress organized in Geneva in 1867 by the French pacifist Charles Lemonnier and the French jurist Émile Acollas, with the support of many intellectuals such as John Stuart Mill, Élisée Reclus, Élie Reclus, Victor Hugo, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Louis Blanc, Edgar Quinet, Jules Favre and Alexandre Herzen. Ten thousand people in Europe signed petitions in support of this congress.
