The Archdukes ruled the Spanish Netherlands between 1598 and 1621 on behalf of Philip III (1598-1621). Albert, Archduke of Austria (1559-1621), was the son of Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor and Isabella of Spain (1566-1633), daughter of Philip II of Spain. Isabella married Albert in 1599, and they were immediately appointed governors of the Netherlands. The Archdukes ruled the Spanish Netherlands between 1598 and 1621 on behalf of Philip III (1598-1621). During their reign, they expressed the will to communicate with the people.
