Historical background

SPAIN - KINGDOM OF SPAIN - CHARLES III

(08/10/1759-12/14/1788)

Charles III (20/01/1716-14/12/1788) is the eldest son of Philip V's second marriage, that with Elisabeth Farnese. He was successively Duke of Parma (1731-1735) and King of Naples (1735-1759) then he succeeded his half-brother, Ferdinand VI, as King of Spain in 1759. He married Marie-Amélie de Saxe in 1738 who gave him six children. His son Charles IV succeeded him in 1788 as King of Spain and his other son Ferdinand IV as King of Naples and the Two Sicilies (1759-1825).
