Celle-ci est la première d’une nouvelle série de la Monnaie Royale Espagnole dédiée aux sites espagnols classés au Patrimoine Mondial de l’Unesco. La Grande Mosquée de Cordoue (Córdoba) est le premier site espagnol classée sur la liste du Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO (1984 puis 1994 pour l’ensemble du centre historique de la ville).
Bâtie au VIIIème siècle par les Maures, la mosquée a été transformée en cathédrale au XIIIème siècle, sous Ferdinand III le Saint..

The Great Mosque of Córdoba (Córdoba) is the first Spanish site to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1984 and then 1994 for the entire historic city center). Built in the 8th century by the Moors, the mosque was transformed into a cathedral in the 13th century, under Ferdinand III the Saint.
