Commentary

L'orange est appelée "Pomme d'or".
We doubt that this token was struck for Rouen. It would rather have been struck for one of the orangeries of the royal castles near Paris. In Strasbourg, it was attributed to the Orangerie de la Robertsau. Other authors attribute it to the Parc de Sceaux. The orange is called \\\"Pomme d'or.\\\" This token has a varied die with a decorated border.

Historical background

AGRICULTURAL, HORTICULTURAL, FISHING AND HUNTING SOCIETIES

The Agricultural Societies were free associations which set themselves the task of discussing agricultural theories, perfecting methods, etc., and on the establishment of which the law imposed no other condition than that of obtaining the approval of their statutes by the prefectural authority. Those which deal more especially with practical applications are called agricultural councils..
