Ce type bien particulier, d’étalon corinthien réduit semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux et a été frappé au moment où Agathoklès devient roi. C’est la première fois que nous le présentons à la vente.

Agathokles, tyranus of Syracuse

Agathokles had seized power in Syracuse in 317 BC and assumed the title of king in 305 BC. In 310 the tyrant invaded North Africa and attacked Carthage, but he was defeated in 307 and must retire to Sicily. Peace, signed the following year with the hereditary enemy, consecrates the hegemony of Agathokles over all Sicily.
