Commentary

Concerning the metal of this quarter, sometimes in good yellow gold, the authors of the Nouvel Atlas specify that this quarter is certainly the oldest of the coins in the Crainvilliers series, stater and quarters combined. The crescent on the reverse is found on other coins which were certainly inspired by this Sequano-Swiss coinage...

Historical background

SEQUANI - HELVETII, Unspecified (Currently Switzerland)

(2nd - 1st century BC)

These two peoples were neighbors and a certain number of coins, particularly staters and quarter staters of electrum from the first century BC, are simultaneously attributed to them. The coin found in Avenches (east of Lake Neuchâtel), of a so-called sequana coinage, illustrates this phenomenon. Gossip of the La Tène type also belongs to this group!.
