Commentary
Médaille attribuée à Alfred Daviel. Il naquit à Évreux le 3 mars 1856 et mourut à Paris le 12 juin 1856. Après des cours de Droit à Paris, dès 1821 il revint à Rouen où il exerça en tant qu’avocat. Le 3 septembre 1830, il fut nommé premier avocat général de Rouen. Il est élu bâtonnier en 1843 puis de nouveau en 1845. Bonapartiste, il est nommé procureur général par le prince-président, puis le 1er novembre 1850 ministre de la justice. Il occupa ce poste jusqu’au coup d’état de décembre 1850. Il est élevé à la dignité de sénateur le 19 juin 1854 et cette médaille lui fut remise à cette occasion. Ses positions Bonapartistes lui valurent une progression très rapide dans l’Ordre de la légion d’honneur, ainsi en 1850 il est fait chevalier, en 1852 officier et l’année suivante commandeur.

He was elevated to the rank of senator on June 19, 1854, and this medal was awarded to him on this occasion. His Bonapartist positions earned him very rapid advancement in the Order of the Legion of Honour, so in 1850 he was made a knight, in 1852 an officer and the following year a commander.
