Commentary


Cette pièce est importante à cause de sa date. Napoléon mourut le 5 mai 1821 sur l'île de Sainte-Hélène. Le droit rappelle que l'île était sous le contrôle de la Compagnie des Indes Orientales. Certains auteurs pensent que cette monnaie est apocryphe, frappée bien après 1821, dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle.
This coin is significant because of its date. Napoleon died on May 5, 1821, on the island of Saint Helena. The law states that the island was under the control of the East India Company. Some authors believe this coin is apocryphal, minted well after 1821, in the second half of the 19th century.
