Commentary


Nicolas Ier (7/07/1796-2/03/1855), second fils de Paul Ier, est le frère d'Alexandre Ier et du grand-duc Constantin. À la mort de son frère Alexandre Ier, le 1er décembre 1825, et après le renoncement de son frère Constantin, il devient tsar de toutes les Russies et commence par réprimer le mouvement libéral des Décembristes puis le soulèvement de Pologne en 1831. Après avoir favorisé la libération de la Grèce, il se pose comme un défenseur des Slaves et s'oppose aux Turcs. Il trouve sur sa route les Anglais et les Français. Il meurt avant la défaite de la guerre de Crimée.

RUSSIA - ALEXANDER I

(03/12/1801-12/19/1825)

Alexander I (23/12/1777-1/12/1825) is the son of Paul I, whom he allowed to be assassinated in 1801 and the grandson of Catherine II. He married Louise de Bade in 1793. He was the implacable enemy of Napoleon I. First beaten at Austerlitz in 1805, at Eylau and at Friedland in 1807, he signed the Treaty of Tilsit in 1807. The rupture between the two emperors took place in 1812. Napoleon began the Russian campaign, was initially victorious and took Moscow, but must retreat during the winter Battle of the Moscova. Alexander participates in the campaigns of Germany and France and is the instigator of the Holy Alliance. He ends his life as a hermit.
