Commentary
When talking machines appeared in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the question of their dissemination arose. A number of phonograph and cylinder/record dealers equipped themselves with listening devices for their customers, sometimes in dedicated locations. Smaller retailers not directly linked to phonographic brands such as Pathé or Gramophone offered similar devices. This is the case, for example, of Palace-Chanson, a listening room located at 27, boulevard de Strasbourg. All you had to do was buy a token and go listen to music or song.
