Commentary

In 1964, 3,500 trial examples were produced with the word ESSAI and a pre-series with only 131 examples. The pre-series presents slight differences compared to the normal type: hand of justice instead of the Phrygian cap, absence of chignon for Equality and signature between two stars. This type was used between the Year 4 and 11 with the legend UNION ET FORCE, then under the Second Republic in 1848-1849 and under the Third Republic between 1870 and 1878. The Dupré type with Union et Force should compete with the Sower as symbol of the franc. Copy presented in its original green case (slightly damaged on the cover)
