Obverse translation : "Imperator Cæsar Marcus Cassius Latinius Postumus Pius Felix Augustus", (L’empereur césar Marcus Cassius Latinius Postume pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse

Reverse legend : HERCVLI MAGVSANO.

Commentary

C’est sans aucun doute l’un des revers les plus rares, encore plus pour un double sesterce que pour un antoninien !.

Postume seizes the purple by eliminating Salonin, son of Gallien, of whom he had custody. He reigns over Gaul, Brittany and Spain. Did Postume toy with the idea of conquering the Roman Empire? Gallien, twice, will try to reconquer the "pars occidentalis" of the Empire, without success. Postume will remain in power for nine years, before perishing assassinated for having refused the sack of Mainz, a city which supported Lélien.
