Commentary

Marque au droit. Pour ce type, M. Crawford a recensé deux variétés principales avec une estimation de 68 coins de droit et de 85 coins de revers. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux.
Mark on the obverse. For this type, Mr. Crawford identified two main varieties with an estimate of 68 obverse dies and 85 reverse dies. This type appears to be rarer than general works suggest.

Historical background

POSTUMIA

(96 BC)

Aulus Postumius Albinus belongs to the monetary college formed by Lucius Cæcilius Metellus, Caius Poblicius Malleolus and himself. He is perhaps the son of Spurius Postumius Albinus who was consul in 110 BC. Of praetorian rank, he joined the party of the Marianists (supporters of Marius) and died at the battle of Porte Colline in 82 before J. - C. by fighting against Sylla. In 96 BC, Cnæus Domitius Ahenobarbus and Caius Cassius Longinus were consuls. Sylla becomes praetor. In Asia, he imposed as King of Cappadocia Ariobarzanes I Philoromaios (96-63 BC).
