In the 10th century, the Melle workshop belonged to the Counts of Poitiers. This workshop, located near a lead silver mine (still visited), is one of the few mentioned in the edict of Pistre. From 877, the Melle mint continued to mint denarii and obols in the name of the late King Charles II, known as "the Bald".
