Commentary

This type is classified in the New Atlas in the \\\"late coins of the Middle Loire\\\", as is the LT denier. 4599 usually classified to the Aedui. An attribution to the Aedui cannot be excluded; the rare provenances are hardly relevant to restore the people responsible for the minting of this denarius!

Historical background

PICTONES / CENTER WEST, Unspecified

(1st century BC)

Several types traditionally given to the Pictons see their attribution questioned for a more general geographical area such as Center-West or Great-West of Gaul. Some also propose an attribution to a military workshop, perhaps linked to the Aedui... We must not imagine or dream of the Gallic, or even Celtic, economic space as closed. coins prove us wrong every day.
