PHOENICIA - ARADOS

(3rd - 1st century BC)

Arados had entered the Seleucid orbit after the battle of Ipsos in 301 BC. The city emancipated itself from this tutelage in 259 BC. Arados then dates its coins from this new era. From this date, the city issued a very important civic coinage (137-45 AC.) which was to last until the Caesarean period..
