D'après les données fournies par G. Cousinié, la société Franco-australienne était une immense propriété d'élevage de bétail appartenant au baron Digeon dont le portrait figure au droit de cette monnaie de nécessité. Le centre de l'exploitation était situé à Gomen qui porte actuellement le nom de Gomen-Oualo. Le nickel est très rarement utilisé pour les monnaies de nécessité mais s'imposait en Nouvelle-Calédonie, premier producteur mondial à l'époque.
According to data provided by G. Cousinié, the Franco-Australian company was a huge cattle ranch belonging to Baron Digeon, whose portrait appears on the obverse of this emergency coin. The center of the operation was located in Gomen, which currently bears the name Gomen-Oualo. Nickel is very rarely used for emergency coins but was essential in New Caledonia, the world's leading producer at the time.
