Obverse legend : MAXIMINVS - NOB CAES.
Obverse description : Buste casqué et cuirassé à gauche avec baudrier, tenant une lance transversale de la main droite, reposant sur l’épaule et un bouclier décoré d’une scène de la main gauche.
Obverse translation : “Maximinus Nobilissimus Cæsar”, (Maximin très noble césar).

Reverse legend : SOLI IN-VICTO // ANT.
Reverse description : Sol radié et drapé, le manteau flottant debout de face, tourné à gauche, levant la main droite et tenant un globe de la main gauche dans un quadrige éclaté de face deux par deux.
Reverse translation : “Soli Invicto”, (Au soleil invaincu).
Commentary
Poids lourd. Type tout à fait exceptionnel, utilisé très certainement à l’occasion d’un donativum. Le bouclier est orné d’une scène représentant peut-être une chasse avec des cavaliers et des animaux.

MAXIMINUS II DAIA

Caesar
Maximin II, nephew of Galerius, became Caesar on May 1, 305. After the death of Constantius I Chlorus on July 25, 306, he did not become august and remained subordinate to Galerius. At the end of the Carnuntum conference in November 308, he was only Filius Augustorum, while Licinius I became august directly. It was not until the following year that Maximin II would take the title of august, a title recognized by Galerius only in 310. After Galerius' death in May 311, he was the oldest of the surviving tetrarchs. He falls out with Licinius and Constantine I, while he tries to get closer to Maxentius. After 312, Licinius turns against him. He is finally eliminated in 313.
