Obverse description : Buste casqué et cuirassé de Maxence à gauche vu de trois quarts en avant, tenant la lance transversale de la main droite en avant et un bouclier de la main gauche (E*2).
Obverse translation : "Maxentius Pius Felix Augustus", (Maxence pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : VICTORIA - AETERNA AVG N/ VOT/X// R S.
Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) drapée, debout à droite, les ailes déployées, posant le pied droit sur un cippe, soutenant un bouclier posé sur une colonne ; derrière, un captif assis à gauche, tourné à gauche, les mains liées dans le dos.

Commentary


Un unique exemplaire recensé dans l’ouvrage de Vincent Drost sur le monnayage de Maxence pour la deuxième officine avec cette césure. Type rarissime ! C’est le deuxième exemplaire signalé.

Augustus

Maxentius, son of Maximian, was proclaimed Caesar on October 28, 306 in Rome, then took the title of Filius Augustorum.
