Exemplaire sur un petit flan ovale irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Portrait brouillé au droit. Revers bien venu à la frappe. Jolie patine vert foncé

Obverse description : Buste consulaire, diadémé avec pendilia de Maurice-Tibère de face, tenant la mappa de la main droite et le scipio de la main gauche.

Commentary


Poids léger. Au droit, nous avons deux types d’ornementation sur le diadème, une croix ou trèfle trifolié et deux types de bustes bien différents, le premier grossier et le second fin. Notre exemplaire présente bien un trèfle lié à un buste de bon style du deuxième groupe. Date rétrograde non signalée.

Maurice succeeded his father-in-law Tiberius II. After great victories over the Sassanids, he suffered many setbacks in the Balkans and could not prevent the installation of the Slavs and Avars. A military plot overthrew him in 602. He was assassinated while trying to take refuge with Chosroes II.
