Obverse description : Buste casqué, diadémé avec pendilia et cuirassé de Maurice Tibère de face tenant un globe crucigère de la main droite et un bouclier de la gauche.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Mauricius Tiberius Perpetuus Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Maurice Tibère perpétuel auguste).

Reverse legend : A/N/N/O - E/ GI// CON.
Reverse description : Grande M surmontée d'une étoile ; le tout dans une couronne.

MAURICE TIBERIUS
(08/13/582-11/22/602)
Maurice succeeded his father-in-law Tiberius II. After great victories over the Sassanids, he suffered many setbacks in the Balkans and could not prevent the installation of the Slavs and Avars. A military plot overthrew him in 602. He was assassinated while trying to take refuge with Chosroes II.
