Reverse description : Mars casqué, vêtu militairement debout à gauche, tenant une haste renversée de la main droite et appuyé de la main gauche sur son bouclier.
Reverse translation : “Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestate quartum”, (Grand pontife revêtu de la quatrième puissance tribunitienne).
Commentary
La puissance tribunicienne inscrite au revers ne correspond pas avec le style du portrait, datable du milieu des années 160 et la marque “armeniacus”, acquise en 164. Intéressante imitation, peu fréquente pour le règne de Marc-Aurèle. Poids léger, il s’agit probablement d’un billon.

Augustus
Caesar from 139, wearing the consulship for 140, Marc Aurèle receives tribunician power in 147 and succeeds Antonin in 161. His personal reign is marked by the Parthian war (162-165). After the death of Lucius Verus in 169, he had to face the Germanic invasions and the plague which ravaged the Empire. Marcus Aurelius associates his son Commodus with the Empire from 175 and dies of the plague in 180 in Vienna.
