Exemplaire sur un flan large, légèrement décentré sur le portrait, revers parfaitement centré. Portrait de toute beauté. Très joli revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe. Très jolie patine avec des reflets mordorés

Obverse description : Tête laurée de Zeus à droite.

Reverse description : Cavalier au pas à droite, tenant une palme de la main droite ; le cheval lève l'antérieur gauche ; entre les jambes du cheval, une proue de navire.
Reverse legend : PILIP-POU

Commentary
Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du musée d’Athènes provenant du trésor d’Haghioi Théodoroi (Lamia), 1901/1902 (IGCH. 93) enfoui vers 310-300 AC (Le Rider p. 108, n° 374, pl. 38) . Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire du trésor péonien 1968 (Le Rider p. 108, n° 375a, pl. 38). Le coin de droit (A/ 177) est aussi associé au différent tête janiforme (Le Rider p. 106, n° 355, pl. 37). Le coin de revers n’a pas été réutilisé. Au revers, la palme est globulée. Début de cassure de coin perceptible au droit à la base du cou.

MACEDONIA - MACEDONIAN KINGDOM - PHILIP II
(359-336 BC)
Philip of Macedon was the brother of Perdiccas III (365-359 AC.), both sons of Amyntas III (381-369 AC.). Their older brother Alexander II was assassinated by Ptolemy who received the regency for Perdiccas III and Philip II (369-365 AC.). Ptolemy was finally killed by Philip II in 365 BC while his brother died fighting the Illyrians six years later. Philip II began the conquest of the Greek world from 357 BC He was the indefatigable enemy of Athens and Demosthenes. He seized Amphipolis in 357 BC and took twenty years to conquer Greece. The victory of Chéronée crowned his work in 338 before J. - C. He was assassinated in 336 before J. - C., at the instigation of his first wife, Olympias, who was afraid to see her son Alexander, dispossessed of the throne of Macedonia after the birth of a boy from a second marriage.
