Exemplaire sur un flan large, légèrement bombé, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait de Démétrius Poliorcète à l’usure régulière. Revers à l’usure plus importante, mais de beau style. Patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets dorés

Obverse description : Tête de Démétrius Poliorcète diadémée à droite, ornée d’une corne de taureau ; grènetis circulaire.
Reverse
Reverse description : Poséidon nu, debout à gauche, le pied droit posé sur un rocher, le bras droit posé sur son genou et tenant un trident de la main gauche ; dans le champ à gauche, un monogramme.
Reverse legend : BASILEWS / DHMHTRIOU
Reverse translation : (du roi Démétrius).
Commentary
Sur cet exemplaire, nous n’avons pas de trace de la petite massue, placée sous le monogramme. Trace de cassure de coin au revers en bordure de flan devant le monogramme. Notre exemplaire semble proche de l’exemplaire du musée de Turin (n° 19.955), Newell, Demetrius Poliorcetes, n° 147 (A/ 150) pour le droit sans que nous puissions établir une liaison de coin pertinente.

Our example seems close to the example from the Turin Museum (no. 19.955), Newell, Demetrius Poliorcetes, no. 147 (A/ 150) for the obverse without us being able to establish a relevant die connection

Coinage in the name of Demetrios type
Demetrius, son of Antigone le Borgne who was killed at the Battle of Ipsos in 301 BC, crushed Ptolemy's fleet at the Battle of Salamis (The Victory of Samothrace statue). A great strategist, he received the title of Poliorcète (the besieger). King of Macedonia after the death of Cassander, in 294 BC, he was dethroned by Lysimachus and Pyrrhus and died a prisoner of Antiochus in Syria (283 AC.).
