He crushed the fleet of Ptolemy at the battle of Salamis in Cyprus (The statue of the Victory of Samothrace). A great strategist, he received the nickname of Poliorcète (the besieger). King of Macedonia after the death of Cassander, in 294 BC, he was dethroned by Lysimachus and Pyrrhus and died a prisoner of Antiochus in Syria (283 BC)..
