Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan ovale et irrégulier avec le grènetis visible au revers. Magnifique tête d’Héraklès au droit. Revers fantastique où tous les détails sont visibles. Très belle patine de médaillier avec des reflets mordorés et bleutés irisés. Conserve l’intégralité de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Reverse description : Zeus aétophore, les jambes parallèles, assis à gauche sur un siège sans dossier, nu jusqu'à la ceinture, tenant un aigle posé sur sa main droite et un long sceptre bouleté de la gauche ; dans le champ à gauche, un bucrane ; monogramme sous le trône.

Commentary

Ce type aujourd’hui est bien à attribuer à Philippe III Arrhidée plutôt qu’à Alexandre III le Grand. Mais d’après H. A. Troxell, il pourrait appartenir aussi à Cassandre et être daté au plus tard de 295 avant J.-C. Nous n’avons pas relevé d’identité de coin pertinente.
This type today is more likely to be attributed to Philip III Arrhidaeus than to Alexander III the Great. But according to HA Troxell, it could also belong to Cassander and be dated no later than 295 BC. We have not found any relevant die identity.
