Commentary

Les armes de Philibert de La Guiche portent de sinople au sautoir d’or. Gouverneur de Lyon et du Lyonnais, Forez et Beaujolais, Philibert de La Guiche, seigneur de Chaumont, est institué grand maître de l’artillerie de France le 6 juillet 1578 par la démission du maréchal de Biron. Il exerce cette charge jusqu’en 1596 et meurt à Lyon en 1607. La famille de La Guiche existe au moins depuis le XIIe siècle, la ville de La Guiche est située dans les Pyrénées atlantiques.
The coat of arms of Philibert de La Guiche is vert with a gold saltire. Governor of Lyon and Lyonnais, Forez and Beaujolais, Philibert de La Guiche, Lord of Chaumont, was appointed Grand Master of the Artillery of France on July 6, 1578, upon the resignation of Marshal de Biron. He held this office until 1596 and died in Lyon in 1607. The de La Guiche family has existed since at least the 12th century; the town of La Guiche is located in the Atlantic Pyrenees.
