Obverse legend : MARIAGE CHRETIEN.
Obverse description : Un prêtre debout à droite, tourné vers la gauche, bénit un couple agenouillé devant lui. Il tient un livre dans la main gauche et une croix rayonnante dans la main droite, levée au dessus du couple. Derrière le prêtre, un autel parcouru de lierre sur lequel est déposé un calice. Sans signature.

Reverse legend : A HOUX / H BACHELIER / UNIS LE 24 MAI / 1882.
Reverse description : Légende gravée en 4 lignes dans une couronne de feuillages et de fleurs.

Médaille décernée aux noms des époux : Houx et Bachelier.
Historical background
LOVE AND MARRIAGE
It was customary in the past to give a treizain during the wedding mass. This treizain was blessed and signified entry into a community of property for the married couple. The treizain, which later became a medal or wedding token, was so called in honor of Jesus Christ and the twelve apostles. This practice continued until the first half of the 20th century. The reference work on the subject is the work of Jules Florange, Love and marriage in numismatics, Moulins, 1936 now replaced by that of Henri Térisse, La Numismatique du Mariage, Argenton-sur-Creuse 2008.
