Avers de l’écu aux palmes (frappé à La Rochelle de 1693 à 1700) utilisé, à la demande du commandant du fort, mais avec l’accord de l’administration.
Le «Fort de Chapus» occupe une position stratégique entre l’île d’Oléron et le Continent, protégeant le port de Rochefort.
