Ce rare type monétaire se rencontre dans le dépôt monétaire de Fécamp (vers 980) (n° 6677). Le nom du roi Lothaire est associé à celui du comte Herbert II (967-983).

From 954, Lothaire ceded Aquitaine to Hugh the Great and tried to fight against the rise of feudalism. He ends up falling out with Hugh Capet (duke 956-987, king 987-996), son of Hugh the Great, because he is more powerful than his suzerain. At the beginning of the reign of Louis IV (936-954), a new monetary reform would have changed the size of the denarii to 360 coins per pound of 18 ounces.
