Historical background

LORRAINE - CITY OF METZ

(14th-15th centuries)

The municipal coinage of Metz gained importance from 1383. It seems to have started at the end of the 13th century between 1292 and 1297. Between 1383 and 1553, the mint seems to have functioned uninterruptedly.
