Exemplaire sur un petit flan irrégulier et épais bien centré des deux côtés. Tête stylisée de Léon Ier. Joli revers. Patine vert noir

Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Léon Ier à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’a) ; diadème perlé.

Commentary
Poids lourd. Pas de césur dans la légende de droit. C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type à la vente. Semble beaucoup plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages de référence !.

(7/02/457-18/01/474)
Leo I (411-474) was an officer of Dacian origin. He succeeded Marcian in 457, tried to reform the army. He counterbalanced the influence of the Germans by a massive entry of Isaurians, including Zeno, his future son-in-law who married Ariadne, the eldest daughter of the emperor and Verina in 467. Leon fell seriously ill in 473. He then chose his little -son, Leo II, to succeed him. Leo I died the following year and Zeno wasted no time in seizing power by joining forces with his son, Leo II, before ousting him..
