Ce denier est frappé sur un flan large laissant apparaître l’essentiel des grènetis extérieurs. Une petite faiblesse de frappe à 6 heures au droit et petits défauts superficiels au niveau des bras de la croix du revers encadrant l’annelet

LANGUEDOC - VISCOUNTCY OF BEZIERS - ROGER II

(1167-1194)

The viscounts of Béziers were also viscounts of Carcassonne since the marriage of Raymond I (1002-1012) with Garsinde, viscountess of Béziers and Agde. Roger II succeeded Raymond Trencavel (1150-1167) who had been assassinated in the Sainte-Madeleine church in Béziers under the eyes of the bishop. Raymond Trencavel II, grandson of Roger II, was the last viscount of Carcassonne and Béziers from 1209 to 1247, in the midst of the Cathar heresy. Dispossessed of Carcassonne by Simon de Montfort in 1209, he ceded the two viscounties to the King of France, Louis IX, in 1247.
