Ce denier est frappé sur un flan assez large, légèrement irrégulier. Exemplaire recouvert d’une patine grise et présentant sur la croisette initiale du revers les restes d’une monnaie collée indiquant qu’elle provient d’un ancien dépôt monétaire. La croix du revers apparaît très légèrement en négatif au droit

LANGUEDOC - BISHOPRIC AND TOWN OF CAHORS - ANONYMOUS
(13th century)
Cahors depended on the Count of Toulouse. Feudal coinage began in 1090 with a denarius from Géraud II de Gourdon (1068-1112) and anonymous coinage could begin at the beginning of the 11th century. It was replaced from 1208 by coins in the names of bishops Guillaume de Cardaillac (1208-1234), Raymond de Cornil (1280-1293) and finally Hugues Géraud (1311-1316). Guillaume de Cardaillac conceded the benefit of the Mint in 1212 and 1224, but the town does not seem, according to A. Dieudonné, to have had the right to monetize.
