En 1848, Rome sombre aussi dans la vague révolutionnaire qui traverse l’Europe. Des troubles éclatent et le Pape quitte Rome de 9 Décembre 1848. Le 9 Février, la République Romaine est proclamée. En avril, la France envoie un corps expéditionnaire sous le commandement du général Oudinot sauver la papauté. Le 4 juillet, la République Romaine capitule..
In 1848, Rome also sank into the revolutionary wave sweeping across Europe. Unrest broke out, and the Pope left Rome on December 9, 1848. On February 9, the Roman Republic was proclaimed. In April, France sent an expeditionary force under the command of General Oudinot to save the papacy. On July 4, the Roman Republic capitulated.
