A partir de 1734, Charles de Bourbon, infant d’Espagne part la conquête de la Sicile et de Naples jusqu’alors sous domination des Habsbourg. En 1734, il devient roi de Naples sous le nom de Charles VII puis en 1732 roi de Sicile sous le nom de . Il fait construire le Palais de Caserte, le “Versailles napolitain”. En 1758, il succède à son demi-frère Ferdinand VI sur le trône d’Espagne. Son second fils Charles IV lui succède sur le trône du royaume de Naples.
Le Sebeto est une rivière qui traverse Naples et se jette dans la baie. Elle est désormais couverte.
